The Espriu Foundation was created as a meeting point for the institutions founded by Dr.
Espriu, and to contribute to increasing the social value and professional and human capital
contributed by co-operatives within the healthcare sector.
Since its beginnings, the debate as to the suitability of co-operative enterprises within
the service sector, and in particular in the field of health protection and of patient attention,
has been the driving force behind the Foundation’s initiatives. This has served as the
foundation for a co-operative solution to the problems affecting healthcare systems.
The vision of the key role that healthcare professionals and citizens can potentially play
in a free and direct relationship, in order to guarantee quality healthcare, has won support
in various regions of the world, leading to the initiative to create a co-operative-based
healthcare movement within the International Co-operative Alliance.
